Tilia wines are made at the Bodegas Esmerelda in Junin with grapes sourced from central Mendoza and the Uco Valley.TILIA Wines are sourced from three vineyard sites within Mendoza, Argentina. The winery is located in Junin, in East Mendoza, while the grapes are sourced from Central Mendoza and the prestigious Uco Valley. These vineyards are famous for their high elevations thanks to their proximity to the Andes Mountain range. Regional diurnal temperature variations produce intense aromatics and retain high levels of acidity in the resulting wines.
A desert mountain region, Mendoza is sheltered from oceanic influence by the Andes. With temperature averaging between 75 F-45 F and rainfalls of only 8-12 inches per year, mostly in the summer. The dry continental climate and well drained alluvial soils facilitate sustainable agriculture and are ideal for growing healthy, concentrated, and ripe fruits.
Eastern Region – Rivadavia
The Eastern Region is one of the oldest and most traditional viticultural regions in Mendoza. Located 50 miles to the southeast of the city of Mendoza at 1,950 - 2,150 feet in elevation, it has a true mountain desert climate with less than 8 inches of rain per year and 330 days of sunshine. This produces very ripe, rich fruit flavors, and the resulting wines have excellent mid-palate richness.
Uco Valley Region - San Carlos & Tupungato
Uco Valley is considered the premier grape-growing region of Mendoza. Located 100 miles South from Mendoza City with elevation that reaches between 3,000 and 5,000 feet. Uco Valley has an arid climate and receives only between 7-16 inches of rain each year. The soils are loamy and sandy, with limestone and surface stones. The high altitudes translate into much lower temperatures, allowing for more aromatic intensity and higher levels of natural acid for freshness and balance.
Mendoza Central Region – Luján de Cuyo
The Central Region is home to some of the oldest high-quality vineyards in Argentina. Located 12 miles South from Mendoza City with elevations between 2,600 - 3,700 feet. The Central Region also has an arid climate with an average of 7 inches of rain a year and alluvial clay soils and rocky subsoil that contains very low levels of organic matter. Varying temperatures bring a deep violet color and concentrated plummy and spicy flavors.
